Monica Hardy has been waiting for a new kidney for more than a year.

The wait list process has been long and uncertain, but Hardy has stayed positive and made use of her time to help others who are in a similar spot. She created the kidney closet, a small room at the Northeast Kidney Foundation near Albany, NY, after seeing how much people fluctuate in weight while waiting for a kidney. With funds going to medications, most people do not have money to buy new clothes that fit them, Hardy says.

At the closet, shoppers can pick up new clothes for free and give back as well. Although the closet is fairly new, it has already caused a stir among those familiar with it.
